New Hope Fellowship's Women's Ministry continues to strive to fulfill its three main purposes:

1. Building relationships and fostering spiritual encouragement.

The Women's Ministry will be hosting a series of brunches and prayer meetings throughout the next few months, but these will not just be social events!

Each brunch will be an intentional time for the women to gather - to yes, eat lots of delicious food - and share with each other about their daily & devotional lives.  It will be a wonderful time to tell each other the things we are learning in our respective studies or reading groups (see below), share how God is growing us in our faiths, and pray for each other in an informal setting.  These brunches will occur every six weeks, on Saturday mornings:

  • Saturday, Nov. 3rd, 10a @ Jane Seo's home
  • Saturday, Jan. 12th, 10a @ Mirry Hwang Capio's home
  • Saturday, Mar. 1st, 10a @ Hannah Kim's home

Each prayer meeting will be a shorter and more formal time of worship & praying specifically for the women of NHF and their particular needs.  If you cannot make a prayer meeting but wish to be prayed for, please tell a sister who is attending, or email prayer requests to Jenny Ko Ahn and/or Cathy Cha.  Confidentiality is assured.  These prayer meetings will also occur every six weeks (alternating with the brunches), on a weeknight at various locations throughout New York and Connecticut:

  • Week of Monday, Oct. 22nd, 7.30p @ Nancy Laboy's home
  • Week of Monday, Dec. 3rd, 7.30p @ Soyeun Jung's home
  • Week of Monday, Jan. 28th, 7.30p @ Christina Hwang's home

Note: The Women's Prayer Meeting is NOT intended to be a substitute for the
Friday Night Prayer Meetings (general needs of the church and other church-related matters)
or the Sunday Prayer Meetings (missions and outreach-related petitions).

Please continue to pray that the women of New Hope will be open to the Holy Spirit working in us to create and grow bonds of faith, encouragement and deep, God-centered care.

            2. Teaching and learning.

The women of New Hope had a great time at the Women of Faith Conference (Amazing Freedom) in Washington, D.C. this past July.  We were blessed by Beth Moore's teaching in II Corinthians, and encouraged by the testimonies of all of the Women of Faith Ladies.  On our last night in D.C., we had a wonderful time of sharing, debriefing and prayer for each other and for God's continuing transforming work in us.  Praise Him for a safe journey, a fulfilling and fun weekend away, and myriad lessons and blessings that continue to form our walks of faith.

This past summer, our women also completed a 12-week inductive Bible study in the Gospel of John.  What a miraculous time this was!  We delved into the Scripture in a totally new way, and it was amazing to see the Holy Spirit opening our eyes, minds and hearts to give us every wisdom the Lord would want us to have.  We came to know Jesus in a bigger, yet more intimate way.  In addition, our spiritual eyes were opened to the ways that we are being called to follow Christ more devotedly, to live all out for God in our homes, relationships, workplaces and in our church.  Praise God for His Word, and for giving us every brain cell that was able to soak in His teaching to carry it straight to our hearts.

This fall and winter, the New Hope women are continuing to grow in their faith by participating in a variety of reading/study accountability groups.  A group of mothers will be reading books and meeting together to encourage each other to be faithful Christian models and teachers to their children.  Another group of women will be poring through biographies of faithful Christians and other books in order to better understand how to walk closely and intimately with Jesus.  Some women will be memorizing I John and reading through the book of Genesis.  Later in the winter, a reading/study group focusing on living strong Christian lives in a post-modern world will commence.  Underlying all of these outward activities is a commitment to praying for each other, nudging (or pushing) each other closer to the call of the Cross, and supporting each other to live a life that is geared 100% for God's glory.

If you would like to join one or more of these groups, please contact the following people:

  • Mothers' Reading Group: Julie Jee & Christina Hwang
  • Biographies / General Reading Group: Hellen Lee & Grace Cho
  • I John Memorization: Becca McAteer & Jeehyun Kim
  • Genesis Reading Group: Jeehyun Kim

Please pray for the Lord's guidance and blessing to be over these groups of women throughout the next several months.

3. Sharing our talents and serving others through fellowship activities.

Sharon Lee, Jeehyun Kim and a number of other women (and men and children too!) did a powerfully amazing job putting together a highly successful Tag Sale in June.  The all-day sale -- deliciously supplemented by some  home-made baked goods -- raised over $4000 for WorldVision and New Hope Church in Kremenchuk, Ukraine.  We give thanks to God for the energy and love that Sharon, Jeehyun and everyone else at NHF poured into the Tag Sale.

Aside from the brunches and prayer meetings mentioned above, the Women's Ministry does have two very important fellowship activities coming down the pipeline.  Those are our ever-famous Clothing Swaps.  Our Fall Clothing Swap is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17th at Christina Hwang's home; our Spring Clothing Swap is scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 5th at a location to be determined.  So start gathering up your clean and still-wearable (just not by you) clothing, handbags, shoes and accessories.  You could be giving someone else a whole new closet, and you could go home with a brand-new wardrobe yourself.  AND, if you're really lucky, someone will model that hot-pink prom dress from the 80's for you!  (Children's and babies' clothing is also welcome.)  All unclaimed items will be donated to local charities, such as Even Start, Big Brother/Big Sister of Westchester County, etc.

Please pray that all that the women do and share will be life-giving and Christ-centered, for the benefit of God's people and kingdom, and for the exaltation of His name.

Please see Jenny Ko Ahn or Cathy Cha if you have questions or suggestions,
and/or would like to volunteer your home, skill, talents, etc. to the Women's Ministry.
