Vision for the resource ministry:

  • To challenge individuals in personal spiritual growth
  • To provide resources and aide for practical development, via books, music CD, videos (VHS and DVD), software CDroms, NHF sermons and handouts
  • To form a community that would support and share with each other
  • Equal attention and resources to children and grownups

Implementations

  • A display board to encourage participation in Bible reading, memory verses, spiritual journals, prayer diaries, personal Bible studies and commentary, paraphrasing the Bible, ...
  • Weekly tabling of resources (books, devotional music, Christian movies and videos), with monthly themes
  • This NHF forum for people to contribute resources, share ideas, and encourage each other.
  • Occasionally have a Discussion Table during the fellowship hour

How you can help

  • Visit the resource table and borrow stuff
  • Help design a banner and display board
  • Volunteer to help set up the table before Fellowship Hour begins, and sit at the table for 10 minutes to answer any questions and help people check out material.
  • We will have weekly rotations to help out at the Resource Table.

Monthly Themes Ideas

  • Display resources related to the "No Prescription Required" article, written by Wei-jing Zhu.
  • Follow themes related to the spiritual challenges on the display board
  • Follow themes related to monthly holidays, or events such as the Promise Keepers
  • Have a few "share our library" themes in which anyone can share some of their favorite books

Westchester Library Access to Audio Books

The Westchester Library System allows library card holders to connect to NetLibrary.com
to freely listen to 1600 audiobooks, and among the 20 subjects is a "Christian  Audiobooks". Although mostly fiction, you will find interesting titles like "The Language of God" by Francis Collins.
The start page is http://www.westchesterlibraries.org/special/newsitem1.html

You can always use your computer to listen to these titles.  You can even transfer them to a few Portable Devices (such as the Creative series), but you will not be able to use iPod due to the lack of DigitalRights management.

Ministry Member Background
Wei-Jing Zhu
Much of my spiritual growth and Christian maturity come from the personal desire and drive to find out things or understand issues on my own, as the amount of available resources (Web, books, devotionals, worship music) in the public make it possible for me to do so independently and at my own pace. In turn, having exposure to the resources allow me to benefit from sermons and personal interactions with other Christians to a deeper degree.

Consequently, I have always enjoyed actively lending resources such as books and music in my personal Christian library to friends at NHF. After pastor Edward half-jokingly called me the NHF pharmacist in one sermon last year, which led to a lot more activity in this area, and my agreement to write about Christian resources in a regular column "No Prescription Required" in the NHF newsletter, I have been planning to make this a regular ministry.

In 2004 I did a few test runs, in which I brought in various books and music CDs, such as by Philip Yancey and Michael Card, in relation to my theme of the recent NHF newsletter article. I was most encouraged by the response, as about 80% the books and music are borrowed during the few beginning minutes of the Fellowship Hour.
